AFRIFORD

The AFRIFORD project « Genetic and paleoecological signatures of African rainforest dynamics: pre-adapted to change? » (2014-2017) is funded by Belgian Science Policy (BELSPO). It is coordinated by the Evolutionary Biology and Ecology unit (EBE) of the University of Brussels. The general objective of AFRIFORD is to understand how past climate changes and the activities of ancient indigenous societies have shaped the current distribution and composition of African rainforests and the genetic diversity of their constituent tree species. With the CARAIB model, UMCCB's contribution focuses on the third specific objective of the project, which aims at developing and calibrating a vegetation model able to simulate reliably the changes in (i) vegetation, (ii) productivity and (iii) species distribution ranges in response to environmental forcing, in order to make predictions under scenarios of climate and anthropogenic environmental changes.
