The MASC project « Modelling and Assessing Surface Change Impacts on Belgian and Western European climate » (2014-2017) is funded by Belgian Science Policy (BELSPO). It is coordinated by UMCCB (in collaboration with the Behavioural Biology Unit (Etho) and the Water Environment Development unit (EED) of the University of Liège). The overall objective is to study the feedbacks between climate changes and land surface changes in order to improve regional climate model projections at the decennial scale over Belgium and Western Europe and thus to provide better climate projections and climate change evaluation tools to policy makers, stakeholders and the scientific community. UMCCB is participating in the development and the validation of the surface module. This module will be based on the methodology elaborated in the VOTES project (coupling of the CARAIB dynamic vegetation model with the Aporia agent-based model).
